Pointing a Finger of Blame in Fatal Mishap on Mt. Herzl


Police are investigating the fatal mishap on Mount Herzl that claimed the life of IDF 2nd Lt. Hila Bezalali, 20. She was the single fatality in the incident in which lighting scaffolding collapsed on the stage as they were rehearsing for next week’s Memorial Day and Independence Day events.

The levaya was held on Wednesday, 26 Nissan 5772 in Mount Herzl Military Cemetery and thousands were on hand to pay their respects.

Police detained a number of people involved in the construction of the lighting scaffolding for questioning, after which they were released. It is reported that the company that set the site up, Itzuv HaBama, is among the finest in the country.

Preliminary findings point to a torn cable as the weak link that led to the fatal collapse of the structure. Those involved are already pointing the finger of blame in the direction of others. A spokesman for the company released a statement that it has been learned person on the scene saw the structure “swaying” before it collapsed. He feels they should have cleared the stage and called the company for assistance, and therefore, the firm is not to blame. Others state that there simply was insufficient time between the swaying and the crash.

Additionally, Police have decided to remand four suspects, employees of the company, who are suspected of forging documents related to the case. It appears police plan to charge them with negligent homicide. No additional details available at this time.
